In selected patients, early management of space, eruption or jaw width may improve the space available for permanent teeth.
However, it is not appropriate to promise that early orthodontic treatment or expansion will eliminate the possibility of future extractions in every child.
Whether extractions are appropriate depends on many factors, including tooth size, available space, facial and skeletal relationships, tooth position, periodontal considerations and the overall treatment goals.
Our goal is to preserve reasonable future treatment options rather than make promises before a child’s orthodontic development is complete.
