Adults consider orthodontic treatment for many different reasons. You may want to improve something you have noticed in photographs, address teeth that have shifted since previous treatment, or prepare for crowns, implants, or other dental work. You may also be interested in improving how your teeth fit together, not simply how they look.

Whatever brings you to Sharp Smiles Orthodontics in Broomfield, your goals are worth exploring.

Adult orthodontic treatment is not one-size-fits-all. Some patients want a focused cosmetic improvement. Others need more comprehensive treatment involving crowding, bite concerns, tooth wear, missing teeth, gum health, or underlying jaw relationships.

Dr. Irina Sharp begins by listening to what you have noticed and what you would like to change. She then evaluates your teeth, bite, supporting bone, gums, facial relationships, existing dental work, and lifestyle preferences.

From there, we can discuss what is possible, which treatment options may fit your goals, and what each approach would involve.

You do not need to know whether you want braces or clear aligners before your consultation. You simply need a place to begin the conversation.

Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?

No. Most adults are excellent candidates for orthodontic treatment, regardless of age.

Age alone does not prevent orthodontic treatment. Teeth can be moved throughout adulthood when the teeth, gums, and supporting bone are healthy enough for treatment. Adults in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond may all be candidates for braces or clear aligners.

What matters more than your age is your individual dental health and what you would like treatment to accomplish. Before recommending treatment, Dr. Sharp evaluates:

  • The health of your teeth and gums
  • The amount of bone supporting your teeth
  • Existing crowns, veneers, implants, or other dental work
  • Missing or previously treated teeth
  • Your bite and jaw relationships
  • Any history of gum disease or gum recession
  • Your treatment goals and lifestyle preferences

Adult orthodontic treatment sometimes requires additional planning, especially when previous dental work, periodontal concerns, or significant bite discrepancies are present. These factors do not automatically mean treatment is unavailable. They help determine which options are appropriate and how treatment should be coordinated.

Some adults benefit from collaboration between their orthodontist and general dentist, periodontist, prosthodontist, or oral surgeon. This interdisciplinary approach can be especially valuable when orthodontics is part of a larger restorative or dental-health plan, and it's one reason many Broomfield-area patients choose a practice that coordinates closely with their existing dental team.

If you have been wondering whether orthodontic treatment is still possible for you, a comprehensive evaluation at our Broomfield, Colorado office can provide a clear and personalized answer.

A confident smile starts with a confident decision.

Questions

Before you book

Is there an age limit for braces or clear aligners?

No. As long as your teeth, gums, and supporting bone are healthy enough to support movement, there is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment.

Can I get orthodontic treatment if I have crowns, veneers, or implants?

Often, yes. These require additional planning since implants don't move the way natural teeth do, but many adults with existing dental work are still candidates. Dr. Sharp evaluates this during your consultation.

Will gum disease or bone loss stop me from getting treatment?

Not automatically. A history of gum disease or recession means your treatment plan may need closer coordination with your dentist or periodontist, but it doesn't rule out orthodontics on its own.

Braces or Invisalign for an adult?

Neither is better in general. Both move teeth well, and the right choice depends on the bite, the amount of movement and how reliably aligners would be worn. Dr. Sharp treats with both, so the recommendation follows your case rather than a preference, and the reasoning is explained either way.

Are ceramic braces noticeable?

Much less than metal. Ceramic brackets are tooth-colored and blend with the teeth from conversational distance; the thin wire is the most visible part. They suit adults who want fixed braces without the metal look, and they move teeth the same way.

What does adult treatment cost in Broomfield?

The fee depends on how far the teeth and bite need to move, which appliance fits and how long treatment runs, so we quote it in writing after the first visit. That visit is complimentary, and you leave knowing exactly what you would be paying for. Monthly payment plans are available, with as low as $0 down, and we accept HSA and FSA funds.
